Befrienders Job Description and Person Specification

Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind requires volunteers who could offer as little or as much time as they are able to provide friendship to local people with a visual impairment, many of whom may be elderly and otherwise socially isolated.  Depending on the individual/s that volunteers are befriending the role may involve visits to people's homes to chat or could involve accompanying to a local shop or reading mail for people.

Timings of visits would be arranged based on the availability and preference of the individuals involved.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL:

Volunteers will need to have a friendly, sociable, patient and caring manner and good verbal communication and listening skills. 
Volunteers will need to be reliable and presentable.

DESIRABLE:

Driver with access to car
Previous work experience in a health and social care setting or similar befriending experience

What we Offer Volunteers

Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind will reimburse any relevant out of pocket expenses incurred as a result of volunteering work
Training will be provided as necessary, this could for example include Guiding Training. 

Please note: On application for a Volunteer Befriender role we will take into account any interests, skills or preferences volunteers inform us of in order to appropriately match volunteers with those they will befriend.
