Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind has entered a new era of its existence. The charity, which supports visually impaired people from across Coventry, has just bought the building it has occupied since it was founded just eight years ago as well as a former care home, Boston Lodge, right next door.
Now the hard work begins. First we need to clear Boston Lodge and give it a bit of clean before workers move in. There is a lot of old furniture and equipment that we can't use and will have to be skipped.
So we are organising SOS The Big Clean, which will take place over the weekend of 15th and 16th September. We are trying to recruit as many volunteers as possible from all over Coventry to come and help us start to get the building in some kind of order.
We will need at least 50 people, people who are able bodied to help with lifting and chucking; others to help with a basic clean of the rooms; people to take charge of teams to work on particular areas. We will also need people who will happily sit shredding old documents and people who could quickly clean or repair some of the good salvageable items from the building that we can sell on. We will also need a team to support all the others making tea, making lunch etc. So no special skills needed, just enthusiasm and as much time as you have to spare.
Can you help? Can you get family and friends to help? Although it will be hard work, there will be a real sense of community on the day and it's going to be a lot of fun, too, we hope.
Please let us know if you and others can do either or both days: we aim to start at 9am and finish around 4pm. We will give clear instructions on the day as well.
